Frequently asked questions

Straight answers, in plain language.

What is Wonderstream?

A calmer way for kids to watch YouTube. You tell us about your kid (age, interests, what to avoid) and we set up a video library just for them, drawn from a catalog of channels I’ve personally watched and vetted. It refreshes with new uploads from those same channels.

How is it different from YouTube Kids?

YouTube Kids filters a firehose with automation and still decides what your kid sees next. Wonderstream starts from a small catalog a real parent has vetted, and when a video ends, it ends. No autoplay, no "Up Next", no comments, no recommendation rabbit hole.

Is it really free?

Yes, free while it’s small. It’s a pilot and it’s just me building it. Longer-term pricing isn’t decided yet, and pilot families will hear first and get a fair landing spot.

Will my kid see ads?

We add no ads of our own. Videos play through YouTube, so a creator’s own ads can still appear inside a video. That’s the honest answer.

Who picks the channels?

I do. I’m Heenal, a homeschooling dad of two in London, Ontario. Every channel in the catalog is one I’ve watched and vetted myself. The matching of channels to your kid is automated; what’s in the catalog is not.

What ages is it for?

Designed for kids 4 to 12. The catalog leans educational: science, math, art, music, reading, movement and more.

How does my kid watch on their own device?

You pair their tablet or computer once with a short code from your dashboard. After that they get their own library, no account or password needed on their end.

Can I see what they watched?

Yes. Your dashboard shows exactly what was watched and when, plus what they favourited and what they hid.

What if a video isn’t right for my kid?

Kids can hide any video and tell you why, and you can hide or unhide anything from your dashboard. If a whole channel is wrong for your family, remove it from their library.

Can I suggest channels?

Yes please. When you add a channel to your family’s library it also lands in my review queue, and the good ones graduate into the catalog for everyone.

How do I join?

Apply at wonderstream.xyz. It’s a small pilot so I review applications personally, and you sign in with a magic link, no password to remember.
